Biography

---

Vassilis read international history and European politics at the universities of London, Athens and Perugia. He worked in many universities in the country and abroad and founded and led academic associations, journals, centres of research excellence and post-graduate courses in International Conflict & Security at the universities of Kingston (Reader in International Relations) and Stirling (Senior Lecture in International Relations).

He was a Stanley J. Seeger Fellow at Princeton University in 2005 and a Leverhulme Trust Fellow in 2003. At UEL and the School Vassilis leads the Centre for the Study of States, Markets & People (STAMP). He is the founding editor of the refereed periodical Journal of Balkan and Near Eastern Studies (Routledge, quarterly) and one of the founding Editors of the Journal of Global Fault-lines.

Vassilis' research interests lie in the field of 20th century political and economic history; globalisation and the state; theories of international politics and economics; heterodox economics; international relations and geopolitics of Eurasia; hegemonic transitions and world systems theory; financialisation, the Euro-zone crisis and the power-shift to the "global East"; Italian, Greek and European politics; the Cyprus issue and Greek-Turkish relations. Roy Thurik is a professor of economics and entrepreneurship at the Erasmus School of Economics (ESE) and a professor of entrepreneurship at the Free University in Amsterdam (VU).

He is scientific advisor at Panteia in the Netherlands, directeur de recherches at GSCM-Montpellier Business School in France and a research fellow at two renowned Dutch research schools: the Tinbergen Institute for Economic Sciences and the Erasmus Research Institute for Management.

Research

Professor Thurik's research focuses on the role of small firms in markets, the role of business owners in firms, industrial organisation and policy, geno-economics, nascent entrepreneurship and the consequences and causes of entrepreneurship in economies.

His research has been published in more than two hundred articles in leading international academic journals. He is (co)-editor of several scholarly books and serves on the editorial boards of many academic journals. He consults regularly for firms and (international) institutions.

Roy’s courses include Small Business Economics, Economics of Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurship and Small Business at EUR, and Economics and Management of SMEs at the Free University Amsterdam. He coordinates the master’s program Entrepreneurship and Strategy Economics, the bachelor III major Entrepreneurship and Organization and the campus minor Entrepreneurship in the Modern Economy at ESE. He set up the famous Erasmus Masterclass Entrepreneurship.

Professor Andrew Burke is the Dean of Business Studies at Trinity College Dublin.

SM Farid Mirbagheri is Professor of International Relations and holds the Dialogue Chair in Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Nicosia.

He studied in the UK and received his PhD in International Relations from Keele University, England.

From 1997 to 2007 he was Director of Research at the Centre for World Dialogue, based in Nicosia.

He served as the editor of The Cyprus Review (1998 to 2005) and the associate editor of Global Dialogue (1996-2008).

Author of many articles and chapters, his first book on the United Nations and Cyprus entitled International Peacemaking in Cyprus was published by Hurst & Co. and Routledge in 1998. He wrote the 2010 edition of the Historical Dictionary of Cyprus and the new edition of the same authored by him will come out in 2021.

A volume on Education for Sustainable Development, co-edited by him, was published by Sage in 2010. His last book, War & Peace in Islam: A Critique of Islamist Political Discourses, came out by Palgrave in 2012. His research interests include theory of International Relations and mysticism, United Nations, Cyprus, and dialogue of civilizations. Currently he is completing a monograph on Critical Thought in Non-Western Approaches to International Relations, due to come in 2021-22.

From 2005 he has been Associate professor of applied economics at Università Politecnica delle Marche (Faculty of Engineering) where he teaches courses on the economics and organization of firms and on industrial economics. Before joining Università Politecnica delle Marche in 2001, he was researcher of applied economics and assistant professor of business economics at the University of Urbino.

From 1985 to 1994 he did research and consulting activities for private and public institutions in the field of industrial economics with specific regard to the management of small firms and business planning.
 He holds a B.A. from the University of Urbino (Italy) an MBA from ISTAO (Ancona, Italy) and a PhD from the University of Stirling (UK).

Prof. Iacobucci research interests are in the fields of business groups, entrepreneurship, and clustering. He has been studying the growth strategies and organization of small and medium sized firms and developed an entrepreneurship perspective to explain the presence of business groups and their organization.

On the role of clustering and agglomeration economy he is investigating the role of related variety, as opposed to specialization, in influencing firms behavior and performance. He is involved in several research projects about regional innovation systems and on the role of university technology transfer activity and academic entrepreneurship (spin-offs).

Georgios is working on issues of household, personal and behavioural finance. He was previously a reader in accounting and finance at the University of Glasgow, a senior lecturer and a lecturer in economics at the University of Stirling and a lecturer in business economics and finance at the University of Essex.
